- handprinted canvas handbags
- hand-carved bamboo stamps to make our designs
- original designs
Each kapa-inspired design is hand-carved onto a bamboo stick to create a stamp, called 'ohe kapala (bamboo stamp). Various 'ohe kapala designs can be combined to create a pattern, which are then screen-printed by hand onto canvas fabric. Shells, nuts, and other items found in nature are also used in our designs.
Kapa: Hawaiian Cloth
Honoring the ancient art of kapa, our designs are inspired by the intricate designs of the 'ohe kapala which were printed onto the traditional bark cloth made from the stripped and pounded bark of the mulberry tree, wauke.
